As an independent traveler, we actively follow the release of mobile travel guides. A new version of the Mob.travel application for IOS and Android has recently been released. Let's see what tasks were completed.

The developers of Mob.travel have collected travel guides to different cities of the world on a mobile platform. Like similar apps, it contains routes and points of interest. The difference and the main advantage of Mob.travel is the presence of an audio guide. This is a module that allows you to listen to the tour while walking along the route. The start page of the application looks like this:

Search and navigation

You can find the desired guidebook in one of two ways: open it in the general list or use the morphological search line located at the top of the window.

We choose the first way, press “all” guides. We see that they can be sorted by distance from our geolocation or by name (in alphabetical order).

Take a Crimea travel guide as an example. In parallel, we envy the good weather on the peninsula, Mob.travel added this information there.

“Failing” in the route menu. We can see that they can also be sorted by several criteria: by name, by popularity or by distance. We choose the most popular route and get into an auto tour around Yalta.

On the preview of the route we see:

• picturesque photographs of the area led by a nostalgic Swallow's Nest;
• the number of points or attractions to be seen on the route;
• total track mileage;
• the time required for its passage

We go down below and see two buttons that offer to download the tour to a smartphone or open it online. Please note that this page contains a description of the upcoming trip. It is also possible to rate (only for authorized users)

We open the route. What will we see? First, a map backed up by audio recordings of points. Each of them can be expanded to see photos or read a description. In our example, the first point is Yalta.

The map is naturally interactive. When you click on a point, you can listen to an audio track with route information. As soon as you reach a certain point on the route, thanks to GPS data, the audio guide automatically turns on and begins to tell you what you see.

What will change if you download the tour on your smartphone, and not just open it? This is the most important point: in fact, the route will go from online to offline, which will allow you to use the guide without connecting to the Internet. In terms of roaming, this is real salvation from the robbery of cellular companies. The only thing required is to pre-select and download the tours of interest, using, for example, WIFI in the hotel. The test showed that the card will also work fine without a wi-fi connection.

Additional functions

The app has an events calendar that shows interesting events near you. After authorization, it can be synchronized with reminders on the smartphone. You can sort events by distance or name. In our opinion, we need to add sorting by date. But in a private conversation, the developers assured us that in the near future they will have a new update with additional filters for searching for events.

Another nice bonus - in the application you can find information about cafes and hotels, so you will not need to use the global Internet search engine.

Conclusions about the application

Alignment with goals and objectives: 9/10. The main goal is to create an alternative to paper travel guides. From the content presented in Mob.travel, you can get all the information you need about the attractions. The main wish is to increase the amount of content, covering as many tourist destinations as possible.

Interface and usability: 9/10. I am impressed by the simplicity and consistency of the interface,

as well as the ability to use the application offline. Separately, we note the high quality of the photos.

Design and appearance: 9/10. In general, the design looks laconic and modern, but its color scheme has drawbacks. On a dark gray background, muted shades are not always easy to read. In low light conditions, this can prevent the user from getting the information they want.

User Interaction: 8/10. After spending a couple of minutes on the initial study of the interface, you will begin to use it easily and with pleasure. But you need to be an extremely organized tourist in order to download the route together with the Wi-Fi access point. Although the offline tour, which is included, thanks to GPS, significantly saves the means of mobile roaming. In this regard, the application will appeal to pedantic Europeans.

Working speed: 8/10. The application sometimes freezes a bit, probably due to a large amount of content.

Last word: I liked the application, I hope that mob.travel will expand the base of travel guides and fix minor bugs.
